The literacy rate for Afghan women is extremely low.  For decades there have been no schools for women. AWAKEN helps by offering literacy courses.

* 130,000 children in Afghanistan have been killed by landmines
* 50,000 children are working on the streets of Kabul

The lives of children in Afghanistan have been dramatically impacted by war and poverty. AWAKEN believes that providing medical care and education can a have huge positive impact on a child's life and improve his or her future.
