Rotary International has sponsored a global grant for AWAKEN which has helped us improve our services and expand our impact to better serve the women and children in rural Afghanistan. The grant consists of 3 parts:
- Establish Saheli Centers for Women to promote economic and community development. The centers include computer and tailoring classes for women. Each session includes 30 women participating in 6-month courses. The first class graduated in July 2017. The next session is ongoing and will be completed in January 2018. The Saheli Centers will continue for two years.
- Renovate and build new restrooms, drinking stations, and handwashing stations at the Qala-e-Malakh School and Behsood Health Clinic. This project was completed by the end of July. Below are images of the new facilities.
- Establish a Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Unit. The MCH unit is now up and there are 200-300 new cases each month. The MCH unit provides prenatal and postnatal care in addition to deliveries.
We are very grateful to Rotary for making all of this possible!
