Saturday, April 1, 5:30 p.m.
Unitarian Universalist Church
4800 West Bradford Drive, Muncie, IN
Please join us on April 1 to enjoy an evening of authentic Afghan cuisine and hear about the wonderful work AWAKEN is doing for the women and children of rural Afghanistan.
Our featured speakers, John and Carolyn Vann, will share their experiences as Peace Corps volunteers in Afghanistan, where they taught English as a second language, adult education, art for children, and volleyball from 1966-68. They will offer insights on the many changes that have come to Afghanistan over the past 50 years.
The dinner’s proceeds will be used to maintain our regular healthcare and education programs, as well as to sustain new projects initiated through a Rotary grant last year—especially our new maternal and child health unit! Our expenses are currently outpacing our income, so your generous support is particularly critical right now.
Each year, thousands of women and children benefit from AWAKEN’s services. Please join us on April 1 to learn how you can be part of our important work! You can also join Meridian Health Services and American Health Network in becoming a sponsor for the dinner!
We invite you to buy a table to seat six guests for $200. Or you may purchase individual tickets at $40 for adults, $25 for college and high school students (with student ID), and $15 for children 12 and under.
The dinner buffet will offer mild chicken curry, chapri kabob, Kabuli palow (a traditional rice dish), spinach, salad, qurma beans, and Afghan bread. The dessert table will have jalebi (a deep-fried sweet), shir berinj (rice pudding), Afghan cookies, and Afghan tea.
As always, the evening will include a silent auction and bazaar of authentic Afghan food and crafts for purchase. All proceeds will directly fund AWAKEN’s work in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan.
