New Birthing Center

Vocational Training

  Currently, there are 3 active vocational programs in three different villages, each with 22 students. AWAKEN runs vocational tailoring programs each year in different villages within Behsood District in order to help women learn literacy, hygiene, and tailoring skills. For many women, these skills meant the ability to survive with dignity, and to add to family and community self-sufficiency. In 2004, AWAKEN built the co-ed Qala-e-Malakh school to provide education for the girls and boys of Behsood Village. Rotary Club provides solar power for Behsood Health Clinic

AWAKEN has used a $3,620 Rotary District Grant to purchase and install a solar panel system for its Behsood Health Clinic in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan.  The grant awarded $1,810 from the District, matched by $1,810 from the Muncie Sunrise Rotary Club.
