AWAKEN’S 13th Annual Fundraising Dinner

Unitarian Universalist Church | 4800 West Bradford Drive, Muncie, IN

Please join us on April 18 to enjoy an evening of authentic Afghan cuisine and hear about the work AWAKEN is doing for the women and children of rural Afghanistan.

One of our featured speakers – Khalid Fazly, a graduate student at Ball State University – will tell us why he’s optimistic about Afghanistan’s future.  Our other featured speaker – Abdullah Noori, director of AWAKEN Afghanistan – will greet dinner guests through a videotaped message or perhaps in person, if granted a visitor’s visa to the U.S.

Dinner Buffet:

Mild Chicken Curry – Chapri Kabob – Kabuli Palow (Rice)

Spinach – Salad – Qurma Beans – Afghan Bread


Afghan Cookies – Shir Berinj (Rice Pudding) – Afghan Tea

The dinner’s proceeds will be used to maintain our medical clinic, open another women’s vocational training and literacy program in May, and provide education for girls, boys, and young women in the Nangarhar Province of Afghanistan.

Each year, thousands of women and children benefit from these programs. In the past year we have treated more than 30,000 patients, provided vocational/ literacy training and sewing machines for 30 women, granted scholarships to eight students attending university, and made vital repairs to the school we built in 2004.  All this has been accomplished with your generous donations.

For this year’s dinner, we hope you’ll buy a table to seat six guests for $200. Or you may purchase individual tickets at $35 for adults, $25 for Ball State and high school students  (with student ID), and $15 for children 12 and under.  All proceeds go directly to funding AWAKEN’s three key programs.

Please provide your name, address, and phone number, and be sure to indicate the number of adults, students, and/or children or the number of tables you are reserving.
